If you don’t, or want your requirements to be validated, our ‘Define’ process will ensure the critical processes for your business have a corresponding requirement for suppliers to respond to. Not only do you need to have clearly said what you do now, you also want to include what you want to be able to do in the future, ensure your competition’s capabilities are considered and what the technology suppliers themselves are offering.

A Won’t can also be useful in managing expectations of your own staff. During a requirements gathering exercise an enthusiastic individual or new idea could be brought up which you should always encourage during the session. On reflection it may not be appropriate and communicating that back to the person who raised it helps set the right expectation and minimise resistance to change later when they realise the system won’t be providing what they had thought of.
